Dr. D.’s career in Gospel Music spans over 30 years. He’s been a Mobile Gospel DJ since 1979 plus a Radio DJ/Announcer and a Freelance Photographer since 1995. As an “International Gospel Music Hall of Fame” nominee and the Gospel Music Workshop of America’s “2002 Horizon Award” recipient, Dr. D. has attained his Masters Degree in Photography in May 2007. Presently, he is working on his first book entitled “Karios” or in Latin, “A moment of an undetermined period of time in which something special happened”. Subtitled, “Special Moments in Gospel Music”, it is a blend of two of my three life long passions: music and art. It captures in ink the colorful imagery of his specialty and niche…Gospel Music. Karios’ purpose is to do for Gospel Music what other books have done for Rock and Roll, Blues, and Jazz. That is to bring the imagery of Gospel Music’s iconic figures into today’s cultural consciousness and be acknowledged as fine art. Dr. D.’s goal is to be to Gospel Music what photographer James Van Der Zee was to the Harlem Renaissance.
