O. Raye Adkins was born in November of 1944, just four months after the disastrous Port Chicago explosion that took the life of her father and more than 200 African-American soldiers. Adkins never dreamed that her quest to know her father's legacy would be filled with the unexpected gifts, joyful pleasures and life-changing gestures of kindness she has encountered from friends and strangers along the way. Her collection of heartfelt letters to her father confirms that miracles are the result of life's impossibilities.
