Veronica T. White
Veronica T. White has served as Director of Sanitation (DOS) for the City of New Orleans since 2003. She was selected by the Mayor of New Orleans because of her unique professional experience as an Environmental Quality Specialist for Jefferson Parish Coastal Restoration and Storm Division, an Environmental Consultant as well as her graduate degree in Public Health with concentration in Environmental Health Science, Hazardous and Toxic Waste Management.
As Director of Sanitation she is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing 21st century curbside garbage collection, disposal, recycling and debris services for residential and commercial customers throughout Metro New Orleans. She also prepares and supervises the operating and capital improvement budgets that total more than 68-million dollars. Additionally she has secured more than 400-thousand dollars in grant funding for environmental enforcement and improvements.
In the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, she was selected to serve in a pivotal role in establishing and implementing debris removal and demolition plans for the State of Louisiana and surrounding municipalities. She served as intermediary and facilitator between the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the United States Army Corps of Engineers regarding contract specifications and delivery of services. White has expanded her duties to the management of the Katrina Demolition Program in coordination with the Office of Recovery Administration. This responsibility included the preparation and management of a 63-plus-million dollar budget as well as serving as senior advisor to the Mayor and City Council regarding legislative matters concerning residential and commercial demolition. Ms. White was instrumental in implementing and developing the plan to make the French Quarter and Downtown areas ”Disney like clean” and making New Orleans cleaner than it has ever been.
Ms. White holds an Adjunct Professor’s position at Dillard University, instructing courses in Environmental Health, Research Methodology, Public Health Leadership, Principals of Health Systems Management, Marketing Public Health, General Chemistry, and Consumer Health. Her civic contributions include serving on the board of Solid Waste Association of North America, National Recycling Coalition, and National Solid Waste Management Association. National Forum for Black Public Administrators, Keep America Beautiful Affiliate Member, New Orleans Imagine it Clean Board Member, Louisiana Conferences on Water Supply, Sewerage & Industrial Waste Association, Society of Women Engineers and the National Association of Educators. She is a lifetime member of Empire Who’s Who Empowering Executives and Professionals. Recently, the Solid Waste Association of North Amercia (SWANA) honored Ms. White for Special Waste Excellence in Solid Waste Management. Ms. White is the recipient of the Coretla S. King Leadership Award for her outstanding leadership as the Director of the New Orleans Department of Sanitation.
Ms. White received a Bachelors of Science degree in Public Health Administration from Dillard
University in New Orleans, and her Masters of Science degree in Public Health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
